What Is Osteopathy And How Does An Osteopath Treat?

osteopathy treatment

I am a manual osteopathic practitioner who offers a wholistic form of manual medicine. What this means is that I will use my hands to treat you.

You may come to the clinic with an ache,  neck pain or  an injury such as shoulder impingement.  I will treat the symptomatic area to give you relief but I will also treat the whole body.  I may treat another tissue or structure that may be the cause of the problem or maintaining it.  By addressing the root cause of the problem I can decrease the chance of it returning.

As an Osteopath I can use many different techniques depending on what is required.  I might use structural techniques to mobilise painful joints or relieve strain through muscles, tendons, ligaments or fascia.  I may use indirect techniques which are very gentle and calming, particularly useful when the pain is very sharp or acute.

What I think that makes Osteopathy different or exciting is that with all the inter-connections within the body, and by using a variety of techniques I can treat one area which will have an effect somewhere else!  By treating globally I can not only give you pain relief, but treat the cause of the problem and give you the tools to decrease the chance of it coming back.
